Steamrollers, the Move and David Byrne
The steam roller workshop Stacy has been planning for a few months finally happened. It was my first time doing something of the like and it was awesome. I never had the opportunity to print that big before so it was pretty exciting. Not to mention the turn out was good and it was nice to see what everyone came up with. All photographs courtesy of Julie O' boyle, unless stated otherwise.

The next thing was that I was awarded best of show at the annual Montserrat College of Art All Senior show. The Juror was a very nice woman Named Denise Markonish. She is oone of the Curators at MASS MoCA, and ironically was on staff at ArtSpace in New Haven a few years ago while I was doing volunteer work for City Wide Open Studios. Small world I say.
It's also been sometime since I shared any music here, so I wanted to upload something I've been listening to quite a bit the last few days. "Music for the Knee Plays (1985)," is an album which David Byrne composed for Robert Wilson's opera the Civil Wars. It is an opera in five acts but was never fully realized. Six different composers of six different countries were to compose sexctions of the performance in their respective countries. Afterwards all the compositions were to be fused togather into one major performance to coincide with the los Angeles Olympics. However this final performance failed to materialize due to lack of funding. When the American Section was created by choregorapher Suzushi Hanayagi and David Byrne it resulted in twelve brief interludes which were intended to offer an opportunity for set changes and connect the larger scenes. The scenes depict humans tearing down a tree turning it into a boat, than a book, then back into a tree. While the choreography is very reminiscent of japenese theatre like Noh, bunraku and Kabuki, Byrne takes his inspiration from The Dirty Dozen Brass Band of New Orleans. It's a really awesome juxtaposition and I recommend everyone check it out. I don't have the performances unfortunately, but I do have the score David Byrne created. Take it please.

I've Also recently noticed a great project called papergirl. It involves people on bicycles riding around around Berlin distributing parcels of free artwork to anyone walking by. The work comes from anyone willing to donate to them. The reason I like this so much is the same reason I really enjoy printmaking. The multiple and the free public distribution of artwork is something that really needs to be practiced more and this project is a great example of it. They are currently accepting donations for the Papergirl three and the deadline is June 17th. If interested sned them donations at
Kuglerstr. 9

Germany

Then Finally, here's some new prints. some pages from the Book.

Cerberus Shoal - Bastion of Itchy Preeves (2004)/The Vim and Vigor Cerberus Shoal and Alvarius B (2003)
My two favorite CS records by far. The split with Alvarius B, also known as Alan Bishop and one third of the Suncity Girls, is an interesting dichotomy between these two musicians performing each others songs. They both certainly do them justice as well. I would highly recommend them. Take.

Hey!
Here's a couple new ones. One of the prints is rather large. Too big for the presses down in the basement so I have to wait until we have that steamroller workshop in April to really start running any off.
